Our Story

Vinny's N.Y Pizza restaurants are the culmination of almost 100 years of restaurant experience between father & son, Giovanni and Vincent Vitale, family friend Abel Mira & New York born Howard Gutwilling.

The journey started over 50 years ago in 1968 when Giovanni immigrated to Brooklyn, NY from Palermo, Sicily. In Sicily, Giovanni had learned the craft of making pizza under his uncle, who had a very successful pizzeria.

Giovanni established his first pizzeria in New Jersey, and he worked independently. After the birth of his son in 1975 Giovanni moved his family & business to Virginia. His two brothers, who also immigrated to the United States, joined him in Virginia, and another man by the name of Abel Mira, an Argentinian who had immigrated to New York and worked alongside many NY Italians, also moved his family to Virginia to start his own pizzeria as well.

Call it fate or destiny both the Vitale & Mira families move their respected operations to Atlanta, GA in 1986. The two families would meet in Atlanta and became business partners. In the late 80's and 90's Giovanni would open several successful restaurants, and in early 2000's Abel opened his first full scale restaurant.

After years in the restaurant business, Giovanni & Vincent partnered to open their newest venture, Vinny's N.Y. Pizza & Grill, in the Atlanta suburbs in 2004. Buford & Duluth were the first Vinny’s Pizza locations and they were an instant success!

In 2011 Giovanni & Abel partnered once again and expand the Vinny's brand. With almost 85 years of experience between Giovanni & Abel, Howard Gutwilling (a NY native) joined the Vinny’s team to establish Vinny's in Midtown Atlanta. It was no surprise that this new location was also an instant success.

After almost 16 years Vinny’s now has locations in Buford, Duluth, Midtown, Piedmont, and yours truly, Sandy Springs.
